Specifically, emphasis is put on enhanced institutional and legal framework and strengthened participation of voters, parties and candidates in the electoral process with emphasis on women, youth and disabled people.

MALAWI

MALAWI ELECTORAL CYCLE SUPPORT: 2017-2019

EU Contribution: € 2,500,000.00

The “Malawi Electoral Cycle Support 2017-2019” project is supported by a basket fund that is currently financed by the EU and UNDP. The project will support the internal capacities of the Malawi Electoral Commission through stronger planning, operational and administrative support, as well as in the areas of dispute resolution, communication, voter education, voter registration and results transmission, and gender quotas.

STRENGTHENING THE ELECTORAL CYCLE IN THE SOLOMON ISLANDS (SECSIP)

EU Contribution: 3.500.000,00€

Since 2013, UNDP Strengthening the Electoral Cycle in the Solomon Islands Project has contributed to the inclusiveness and integrity of the electoral process. The project also supports the review of the electoral legal framework with a view to promote the strengthening of the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) and assist to the fulfilment of its mandate. It also strengthens the capacity of the SIEC to advocate for women’s political participation.

ZAMBIA

SUPPORT TO THE 2015-2017 ELECTORAL CYCLE

EU Contribution: €5,250,000.00

The UNDP project “Consolidation of the Electoral Process in Zambia: Support to the 2015-2017 Electoral Cycle” aims to strengthen the Zambian electoral cycle through consolidating the capacities of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and other electoral stakeholders. The objectives of the project include: 1) enhancing ECZ’s institutional and functional efficiency; 2) improving electoral regulations and transparency of the vote count and supporting the establishment of the framework for domestic observation; 3) enhancing political party management and women leadership; 4) supporting early warning mechanisms and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms; and 5) enhancing media’s credibility in the electoral process.

The PACEC strengthens partners’ coordination in the crisis resolution in Centrafrique toward a return to stability and a restoration of constitutional order through free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

The purpose of the project in DRC is to ensure efficient coordination in assisting the electoral process to organize transparent and credible elections in compliance with international norms and regional instruments, encompassing gender equity. The project also aims to strengthen institutional management capacities of electoral cycles.

SUPPORT TO THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION AND THE JUDICIARY IN JORDAN

The project’s overall objective is to provide support to the Electoral Cycle in Jordan through an effective and strengthened Independent Election Commission (IEC). Activities focus on IEC external relations with other stakeholders, Voter Registration Data Base and strengthening of Electoral dispute resolution mechanisms.

EUROPEAN UNION SUPPORT TO THE LIBYA ELECTORAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT

The overall objective of the project was to provide assistance to enable High National Elections Commission (HNEC) and relevant Libyan counterparts to prepare for and conduct successive well-administered, transparent and credible elections.

DEMOCRATIC EMPOWERMENT PROJECT (DEP)

EU Contribution: 4.500.000,00€

The project has focused on increasing capacities of the key democratic institutions to support legal and institutional reforms, building capacities of EMBs and enhancing their engagement with stakeholders. Outputs also encompass an inclusive participation in elections and politics enhanced through the empowerment of women, youth and people with disabilities. Finally, the project has contributed to prevent election-related conflicts and put efforts to ensure gender equity in electoral processes.
