Within the United Nations system and the different services of the European Commission there are different actors dealing with the electoral assistance field.

At the UN, the Electoral Assistance Division of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA/EAD), the UNDP Bureau Development Policy at HQ  and the  UNDP Country Offices  are the most important ones.

Within the European Commission, the EC the Delegations in each country with the National Authorities have the leading role over the identification, formulation, implementation and evaluation phases. Specific support is provided by te EC HQ via number of services fulfil different roles together for the identification, formulation, implementation and evaluation phases of electoral assistance projects.

Since January 2007, the EC-UNDP Joint Task Force on Electoral Assistance works in order to further strengthen and facilitate the EC-UNDP partnership in the electoral assistance field and aims to improve the overall efficiency and adherence of the projects to the common EC/UNDP strategic approach.
