The 7th EC-UNDP-IDEA Joint Workshop on Effective Electoral Assistance took place in Accra from 29 June to 3 July 2009.

Building on the content, structure and experiences of previous trainings and workshop, the EC-UNDP Joint Task Force and International IDEA, in collaboration with International Organization of Migration (IOM), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Organization of American States (OAS), carried out a five day face-to-face workshop that targetted EC, UNDP and IDEA staff, staff from donor agencies, regional/international organizations as well as members of election management bodies.

Participants learnt about EC-UNDP policies, strategies and activities in the field of electoral assistance, became familiar with EC and UNDP procedures for programming, identification, formulation, implementation and evaluation, and EC and UNDP financial and implementation modalities. More specifically, they obtained insight in the electoral cycle approach and activities that are carried out in support of electoral cycles around the globe. Also, they learnt about strategies and the pros and cons of ICTs in electoral processes, electoral budgeting, procurement and global tools.

As usual, the workshop was delivered by members of the EC-UNDP Joint Task Force on Electoral Assistance and  staff of International IDEA as well as senior electoral experts with extensive headquarter and field experiences of our collaborating partners at IOM, CIDA and OAS.

The workshop was reserved for EC-UN staff and staff of our institutional partners and election management bodies. Thus, participants need to be seconded by their respective organizations/institutions and/or EU Member States.
